Funeral Home Feature Series

This is the first in our new ongoing Funeral Home Feature Series. As the owner of, Lasting Eulogies I get to meet tons of really cool people, many of whom own funeral homes or provide valuable services within the death care industry. I had the idea to feature some of my connections and share them as a resource for my readers on our website and blog. Today I’m starting out with Jeff Dorothy of Cattermole Funeral Home but stay tuned for more to come!

Meet Jeff Dorothy, Owner of Cattermole Funeral Home

I had the opportunity to meet Jeff and his partner Michaelea during the Washington State Funeral Directors Association meetings last month. Jeff is a member of the leadership team at the WSFDA. He’s a business owner and board member representing the Southwest District of Washington State.

Jeff is the owner of Cattermole Funeral Home in Winlock, WA. He acquired the funeral home January 1st of 2017. He’s a lifelong resident of Winlock, WA, starting in the funeral industry right out of high school.

"I always wanted to own a funeral home," Jeff is quoted as saying. "I had the opportunity to buy Cattermole's, and I jumped at the chance. We are here to provide affordable services to the community. We offer services for all of Southwest Washington; we want to be here for the families."

Being a lifelong resident of Winlock, Jeff knows most of the families he provides services for. He has a kind demeanor and it’s evident upon meeting him that he is both personally and professionally invested in the funeral industry and the families he serves.

Cattermole Funeral Home in the early days

The History of Cattermole Funeral Home

Cattermole Funeral Home was founded in 1902 by Robert Cattermole, a Civil War vertaran as well as a wood craftsman, cabinetmaker and sawmill owner. His son, Leland became his partner and the second generation to own and operate the funeral home. Leland's daughter, Anna Mae Millman attended mortuary school during WWII and became the third generation owner when Leland retired in 1957. Her son Jeff Millman and his wife Cheryl purchased the business when Anna Mae retired in 1985. They sold the business in 2012 to a small corporation. In 2017 the corporation sold the business to Jeff Dorothy bringing the funeral home back to a locally owned and operated business. You will still find Jeff Millman active in the funeral home today.

Cattermole Funeral Home Today

Cattermole Funeral Home is the only locally owned and operated funeral home in its area. In their own words, they take great pride in helping people during one of the most difficult times in life. They say that it’s a challenge their family has answered for four generations. Now, as was then; they continue to provide quality care at reasonable prices. They pride themselves in not being a part of a large funeral home corporation; independent and not controlled or managed by a remote or distant investment group. They firmly believe this allows them to care for your family like they would their own.

Cattermole offers traditional services, cremations, and celebrations of life. They cater to the individual and the needs of the family 24/7, seven days a week.

If you’re looking for personalized service with a genuine and committed group, I’d highly recommend checking out Cattermole Funeral Home for your loved one’s services.
